Most of the time, you know you are doing a good job with parenting. But there are times when raising a child with a disability gets tricky. Like when your child may seem unwilling or unable to follow instructions or master new skills. Or when they have unexpected meltdowns. What are Stepping Stones Triple P Seminars?

Stepping Stones Triple P Seminars are for large groups of parents – possibly 20 or more. It’s an informal presentation, a little like a public forum. There are three seminars in the Stepping Stones Triple P series and you can choose to do one, two or all three:

  • Positive Parenting for Children with a Disability: Think of this seminar like Stepping Stones Triple P in a nutshell. You’ll be introduced to the seven principles of positive parenting children with a disability, helping you to better understand them and develop a closer relationship.
  • Helping Your Child Reach Their Potential: Give your child skills for life! Armed with the six key steps to teaching your child new skills you’ll learn how to effectively apply them and set up your child for success.
  • Changing Problem Behaviour into Positive Behaviour: Understand why your child behaves the way they do, how to manage situations that trigger certain behaviours, and how to guide their behaviour. You’ll end up seeing more of the behaviour you like, and less of the behaviour you don’t like.

Where do I go for a seminar?

Seminars will usually be organised by a community organisation like a school or child care centre and be held in a public venue.

How long will it take?

The seminars last around 90 minutes. There is time at the end for your questions, but you won’t have to speak up if you don’t want to. It’s your choice. There’s no homework and no follow up. It is designed to be a brief introduction to the Stepping Stones Triple P strategies. But you will definitely get some great ideas to take home and try out with your family.
