Group Stepping Stones Triple P – All you want to know about parenting

Is this you?

You have a child with an intellectual or physical disability, and life is constantly stressful. Your child's issues or behaviour may mean you can't go out with your child, holding down a job is difficult or impossible, and relationships with family and friends are suffering.

In fact, everyday – from breakfast to bedtime – is a battle. If this sounds familiar, then Group Stepping Stones Triple P can help. Group Stepping Stones gives you support to help you manage your child's behaviour and prevent the kinds of problems that make your family life stressful.

Or is this you?

You want to create the happiest home life you can. You may have a few concerns about your child's behaviour – perhaps there's disobedience or you simply want to find out how to set up better routines for mealtimes or bedtimes. Whatever it is, you're very interested to learn more about positive parenting a child with a disability and how you can apply it to your family. If you're ready for a more in-depth look at the parenting strategies that really work, Group Stepping Stones Triple P is ideal.

What happens at Group Stepping Stones Triple P?

Group Stepping Stones Triple P is a great opportunity to meet other parents in similar situations – other parents who'll support you and share stories with you.

From the start, you'll be given tips and suggestions to fit the needs of your family. You'll see scenes from the DVD Stepping Stones Triple P: A survival guide for families with a child who has a disability, which show you how the ideas work in real life. And your workbook will give you the tools and information you need to start positive parenting right away at home. Your Stepping Stones Triple P provider will guide you every step of the way and even provide backup phone support as you put your new skills into practice.

Where do I join a group?

You can join a Stepping Stones Group near you using our calendar below.

You may find it difficult to get to a Stepping Stones Triple P session with a provider but you still want Stepping Stones Triple P support. If so, you may like to try the self-help workbook version of Stepping Stones Triple P. Contact us for more details.

How long does it take and how big are the groups?

There are about 12 parents in a group session. Usually, each session lasts no more than two-and-a-half hours at a time.

  • Five group sessions with other parents to give you the tips you need to start positive parenting.
  • A few weeks of home practice. (Your Stepping Stones Triple P provider will call you every week at a set time to find out how you're doing and offer advice if you're having any trouble. Those calls will last about 15 minutes.)
  • One last session with your group and provider. This is a chance to go over any problems you may still have – and to congratulate yourself on how far you've come!
