A mum is holding her child’s hand, Triple P helped them grow closer.

Hailing from Pakistan, Ayesha is a mother of three children – aged 10, 8, and 1 – and lives in Melbourne, Victoria. Like many parents and carers, Ayesha was overwhelmed by the demands of daily family life – and motivated to make changes.

“I was struggling to be polite and positive,” said Ayesha.

“I was stressed with household chores, the night-time routine with my baby, not much exercise, and a list of never-completed tasks!

“I was making promises to myself to be polite and to listen to my kids, but I was not fulfilling them. I was still grumpy at times and tried to keep calm,” said Ayesha.

Ayesha also realised that she wasn’t spending quality time with her children.

“In all of this hustle and bustle, I didn’t have one-on-one time with my kids,” said Ayesha.

“My 8-year-old son would try to get a hug from me about 20 times or more a day.

“Every time he would come, I kept on saying, ‘Sorry honey, I am busy now,’ or I would hug him for nanoseconds and ask him to leave.”

This inspired Ayesha to search for positive parenting advice.

“That was the moment I started googling and found Triple P Online,” said Ayesha.

“I am originally from Pakistan, so nobody in my circle knew about Triple P.

“While parenting challenges are the same across cultures, sometimes people aren’t comfortable sharing their problems or will step forward.”

New practical skills

Ayesha felt that Triple P’s free, online program for parents and carers of children under 12 could help.

“I was looking to improve my parenting skills, and felt that Triple P could take me along the journey to achieve my positive parenting goals,” said Ayesha.

“When I started Triple P Online, I found the content was practical and realistic. It resonated well with my everyday parenting challenges.”

Real positive change

Now, Ayesha sees great improvements at home. She recognised how her own wellbeing affected the family environment and what she could do to reduce stress and improve day-to-day life.

“Family life is doing alright due to awareness of how I can control my behaviour,” said Ayesha.

“Triple P taught me to stop, slow down, or sometimes simply pause. My thoughts are more logical, and I understand my family better.”

Ayesha learned to set realistic expectations for her children in line with their age and stage of development.

“Triple P has helped me understand the limitations of my kids, which has truly helped me have realistic expectations,” said Ayesha.

Ayesha is proud of the mum she has become.

“Triple P has not only helped me become a good parent but also helped me become a good person,” said Ayesha.

Ayesha’s top 3 Triple P strategies

  • I try to hug my kids more often before they ask.
  • I listen to my kids and absorb what they are saying by stopping or pausing whatever I am doing.
  • I try to respond to my kids when they ask a question rather than just nodding. I also acknowledge and appreciate a specific job that the kids are doing.

Triple P suits everyone

Ayesha wholeheartedly recommends Triple P Online.

“If I had known about Triple P earlier, I could have been a more poised and calm parent!” said Ayesha.

“So, I truly and wholeheartedly wish others to get onto it sooner. Kids should be treated in the best way.

“Better parenting today ensures amazing, confident kids tomorrow!”
